Every Thursday Bakewell Derbyshire Walk for Life Group Starting at 10am at Foolow 30th June 16

Golly, thought there was not gonna be a walk to top our Sunday walk at Tissington but whoa, I absolutely loved Foolow today, with a long coffee break at Eyam. After Foolow, I am not sure which walk is my favourite, Foolow, Great Longstone, hmmm, really tricky. The rain held back and we were all dry from start to finish. Sadly, poor turnout today with only 10 of us instead of the normal 31!

Here's my gang having our break at Eyam:-

Oh, here's my hot chocolate with cream, not as yummy as the Craft Centre Cafe at Calver Bridge. Looks can be deceiving!

This is not just a walking group, you know. In the 2 hours with my beloved Bakewell Group, I participated in discussions about Brexit, website dating, Scotland's take on immigration, wine, varying grades of beef, farming, Princess Diana and Prince Charles, 9/11, BBC's biased one sided reporting, dogs and a multitude of others. Not just saying this, I always learn something new from this lot! So, why not sample it for yourself, come join our gang and email me at malapapachan@gmail.com or look out for next Thursday's listing in the Peak Advertiser! See you next Thursday!

No arty photos today, just us crossing stiles. Looking good, Sue!

Every Fortnight Youlgrave Derbyshire Walk for Life Group

Oh, special treats to be had on today's walk as we made a tour of all the well dressings and Peter spotted a couple of birds too, a Tree Creeper (Certhia Familiaris) and a Nuthatch (Sitta Europaea). The gardens and fields around Youlgrave are simply magical and I stopped several times to admire the flora. Think we spotted an Icelandic or Californian Poppy too but we weren't sure?

Considering the numerous times I've walked around Youlgrave, we discovered a glass artisan on Bradford Road. Really enjoyed it, hope you can join us the next time which would be Tuesday 12th July. If you would like to join us, please send me an email to malapapachan@gmail.com for details.

Our Very Own Walking Group! Come Join Us!

I met some great people through the Walk for Life project and we soon formed our own splinter group that go for walks on Sundays. If you would like to join us us, please send me an email to malapapachan@gmail.com for details and we can even provide transport if you are in our neighbourhood of Youlgrave, Rowsley & Biggin!

Our Vaughn picked a real gem, a walk around Tissington with 2 challenging steep hills where I was puffing and huffing a little. We really enjoyed it and was totally in awe of the scenery. There was a moment of panic when a couple of cows walked towards us but we managed to escape. We then had a lovely meal at The Blue Bell Inn but I have to be honest it wasn't as sumptuous as The Bulls Head in Youlgrave.

So, here's next Sunday's details:-

Time & Date: 9am Sunday 3rd July
Walking Around: TBA

Thursday 23 June 2016

Alas! 23rd June 16, a historic day for the United Kingdom

I left early today and I was all excited to cast my vote, I took off my Brexit Car Sticker and stuck on my purple jacket as last ditch attempt to convince un-deciding voters. You think nature would create a special atmosphere in the air or a certain je ne sais quoi. Nope, I didn't detect anything apart from that it's a muggy day and I felt kinda heavy.

The walk to day was with my beloved Bakewell Group, we all met at 10am at the Peak District Shopping Village in Rowsley. It must have been a much longer walk today as we normally get back at around 12pm, but we got back to the car park at 12:45pm. Magic walk as usual, passed cows that refused to move and noticed loads of wild garlic plants that simply died off? Was it all the rain? Here are my photos for today. Check out my arty Rosa Canina photo?

Here's a video I wish to share with everyone, one of the funniest things I've heard and seen for a long time. Radio 4, John Finnimore's 'Put It On A Plate'. Spread the word!

Derbyshire Walk for Life Celebration Walk

I had the most pulchritudinous walk with my fellow walkers from all over the Peak District and today we all met at The Old Dog, Spend Lane, Thorpe DE6 2AT and departed promptly at 10:30am. Glad the climb was at the beginning of the walk, then a precarious trek across some fields, through Tissington Village with the most idyllic scene with a pond full of fishes. Then, a hearty lunch at The Dog that also served up a smooth and delectable latte! Must go back to the Dog, as I think it's had a face lift? Not sure? Looks amazing inside. Here are my photos today:-

Sunday 19 June 2016

I've had such a marvelous time watching all the cyclists come through our village. I decided to do some signs to just thank them all and wish them well. The rain stayed away most of the morning and early afternoon! Thank you very much Eroica 2016 for bringing it via Biggin and making it a refreshment stopover too!! See you all again in 2017. Here are some of my photos and my little sign.

Wednesday 8 June 2016

Biggin hasn't got any online presence, so I am hoping to address this predicament. Here are some of the fun things that I hope to be doing soon:-

1) I shall be asking my local Biggin & Earl Strendale Newsletter which is so lovely and interesting, I always read it cover to cover and cut out pieces or events that I want to attend

2) Since 2007, I developed a love for the Peak District and I am always going out to check on various events happening everywhere and I tweet about it when I get home, so please do join me as sometimes I cover things that no one else does: https://twitter.com/Traffic_Song

3) I am desperately trying to find the owners of the POW in Biggin as I would like to write a little story about it and apparently Mr Dallas Burston owns it but I am not too sure at present

4) If anyone in Biggin has any documents, letters or historical data that they wish to see published, please contact me on malapapachan@gmail.com

Watch this space!
