Besides the Youlgrave Gang, this is also my favourite and regular walk every Thursday. So, see you there.

This sounds interesting, coincidentally I am scheduled to be at Matlock on Friday so I may go to this event.

BAKEWELL CAR BOOT SALE
Time & Date: 7am to 1pm, Sunday, 2nd October and Every Sunday
SatNav: DE45 1AQ

It's been a while since I've been to the Bakewell Car Boot and I love them as it's a wonderful Sunday morning past-time and you just never know what will catch you eye. Check out my purchases!

As I am still waiting for my wall mural photo that's in the hands of my photographer friend, I've got a blank wall and I felt the need to fill in the void temporarily, what a picture for £2. Someone once told me about antiques, just buy what you personally love or where your heart takes you. By the way, that wasn't an antique.

Loads of free range eggs (30 for £4), veggies (£2.70) and the fruits was a snip at £3! Made in Derbyshire honey for £3, bargain, none of dem supermarket sugary stuff they call honey. Get jiggy with it!

I've been in and out of charity shops looking for a white teapot to match the rest of my Staffordshire set, but take a look at what I found instead?
My star find, £4!

Finally, a bino to check out the wildlife in Biggin! Get jiggy with it!

DERBYSHIRE WALK for LIFE GROUP at CALVER

SatNav: S32 (Park Next to the Church)

As I am a tad behind on logging all my walks, I need to revert and dig out my notes for this and find any photographs too. I think both Sue Williams and Sue Smith made it to this walk, I need to verify with them. I didn't take much photographs on this walk but took a very important one, on water voles which we all know is now an endangered species. Considering how many times I had done this walk, I never noticed the sign so it's kinda nice for me to take note of this lovely creature.

AUTUMN ATTIC AND CRAFT SALE, YOULGRAVE VILLAGE HALL
Time & Date: 10am to 2pm, Saturday 17th September
SatNav: DE45 1UT

Now, I personally actually had a stall at one of their table-top sale and I loved it. I didn't do very well on my stuff but it doesn't matter, I enjoyed talking to people and being warm indoors. The only thing I will say about the Youlgrave Village Hall, go early as it's impossible to park just outside the hall but there is parking before you get to the hall or on the main road. Hhm, think I might just check this out tomorrow and call a couple of my friends too. Will I see you there? I had to give this a miss as I was down with a stomach bug for nearly 1.5 weeks and finally went to the doctors. So, if you attended, please let me know all about it!

I asked Charles to come along as it's a nice and easy walk.

It's a walk starting from Alport walking along the River Bradford, absolutely serene and gorgeous river. Then, through Mawstone Lane, up Holywell Lane, Moor Lane, walk past All Saints Church in Youlgrave and then back down to Alport.

Apologies for this picture as it's only my little Samsung Galaxy J5 as we spotted a heron on the river, that little dot in the clear blue sky as it flew away as we were walking closer towards to it.

Oh well?

It was just Sue and me today using one of her walking books. We decided to begin early and for a change, we made a good and easy start as the book was simple and easy to follow. We started breaking away from Baslow and walk on a hill and had amazing views either side of us. Then, we came across a lone Highland cow on its own, Sue and I played it cautiously and walked around it and believe it ot not, we came across it again when we got back! Amazing! Beautiful and such a pretty cattle breed.

Then, not long after we saw what we can only describe as a tomb stone and it had a plaque on it which I googled when I got home, but was unable to identify it.

Do drop me a comment if you have seen it too as it was very interesting. Apologies, for some strange reason I didn't take a photo of the structure but here's the plaque.

Then, we followed the book right up to the car park on the other side and flipped back but we must have made a mistake and it was supposed to be a circular walk but we eventually wound back onto the same track. All in all, a magic and superb walk.

Then, Sue suggested going to her friend's cafe at Tideswell where I had one of the best breakfast I've had for years and it was a veggie one too. You must go to Vanilla Kitchen, top top class food! I very rarely insert a photo of myself on my blogs, so here's one of me. Hey, check out the views behind me!

Sunday 4 September 2016

WEEK BEGINNING the 29th AUGUST 2016

Our Very Own Splinter Group Walk 4th September 2016
Book Inspiration: 9 Walks Around Matlock & Bakewell Area from 3.2 to 6.4 Mile (Sue's Book)
Walk Chosen by Susan: Walk Matlock (pages tba)

MapMyWalk App Stats: 3.73 miles for 2H:24M:34S, pace at 38:45 mins per mile

http://mapmywalk.com/workout/1724727905
Break: Twenty Two for Drinkies & Peli at Matlock for Coffee & Sandwiches DE4 3AT

Blimey oh riley, we were like a couple of teenagers that got lost in the woods! Where do I even start? I shall start by saying that our walk didn't start very well, hee hee ...

We tried to follow the book's instructions but Sue mentioned that something didn't feel right as we were supposed to see a stile in section one, but never did. So, as we were rather keen to try and follow the book, we decided to head back to Halls Leys Park and tried to find this so called "public footpath" that was supposed to be close to the Matlock Railway station, so much so we had to go into a shop to ask. Anyways, we finally got onto the river and we were consistently convincing ourselves that we were on the right track but once we got walking on the pathway, I wasn't convinced as something about it didn't feel right to me, and according to the book the river Derwent was on our right? Right?

After 30 mins into the walk, we started to climb and climb, we were hairingly close to the valley below so one silly slip, we could have gone tumbling down, never to be seen again and I jokingly said to Sue much later, that luckily we did not need the mountain rescue. It was really hard going at times as the pathway was wet and slippery so we had to thread very slowly and carefully. Sometimes, I had to squat and most of the time holding my dear life right into the hands of nature's trees around us that lined the pathway. Thank you trees and branches! The highlight of our little adventure was discovering a cave and seeing humans again on the other side. We both even contemplated turning back, but thanks to Sue we pushed on. We never saw the disused factory, stile nor barn!! But hey, check out the views ...

Then, we also got really thirsty half way through and wished one of us brought a bottle of water but didn't bother as it was only supposed to be a 1.5 hour walk, that taught us a little lesson for the future. We were also craving for walking sticks then too as it would have been really useful on this particular walk. However, both Sue and I like being hands free, another lesson in life?

I have never been so pleased to see a set of stairs leading to the road of freedom ...

Then, suddenly out of the blue we saw Height of Abraham's cable cars and I cannot tell you how relieved I was and suddenly I felt very confident as I knew we were not far from civilization. Plus, I also lived in Matlock Bath before and I knew it wouldn't take me long to worm our way back to the Matlock Railway Station Car Park.

Ah! Back to my own turf, alas out of the woods! Here's High Tor and it was here we soon saw a sign for a railway station but it was Matlock Bath and not Matlock's Railway Station. So, we are now not far, through the railway station and down towards the Midland Pub, chuck a right and straight run towards Matlock and I could kill for a pint of ice cold lemonade and orange juice which we both had at Twenty Two on Dale Road.

Then, a quick call to Charles, my best buddy to join us for a spot of well deserved lunch at Peli's. Charles had quiche and salad, Sue had Tuna sandwich on granary and I had Ham & Cheese Panini, so delicious. We then started getting comfortable and enjoyed people watching. All in all, a pulchritudinous morning of fun and adventure!

Tennis is next at at 10am in Bakewell Park grounds on Tuesday 6th September and I've got a cycle ride with the Derbyshire Park Rangers.

Do you want join us, just ping me a comment and we will include you in our emails?
